Kaskew is committed to use of our forest resources on our traditional ancestral territory in a way that is environmentally sustainable. We strive to practice sustainable forestry to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
We serve our community by continually improving our practices a by complying with our Sustainable Forest Management and Environmental Policy [link to PDF], Standard Operation Procedures of our Environmental Management System (EMS), and Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) Standards.
Environmental Management System (EMS)
Kaskew has a solid Environmental Management System in place to ensure our operations meets international standards and requirements. The EMS applies to forestry operations within the MLBV's approved planned areas on the Prince Albert Forest Management Agreement. Standard Operation Procedures are described in our Environmental Management System Manual and includes activities such as layout, harvesting and transportation of logs, road and bridge construction, maintenance and deactivation, temporary contractor camps and all post-harvest/silviculture operations. The Purpose of the Manual is to ensure the successful implementation of the company's EMS, Standard Operating Procedures as well as other operational standards.
Sustainable Forest Management and Environmental Policy
Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI®) Program
Kaskew is certified through the Sustainable Forestry Initiative. The program is composed of principles, objectives and performance measures designed to broaden the practice of sustainable forestry among participants. Through the program we provide an annual report to the SFI that allows the public to monitor our progress in achieving the SFI programs objectives.
